DIABETIC

Diabetes

Diabetes is now-a-days very close to us. Most of the people know much about diabetes. This disease can have many origins but the exact cause of diabetes is not known until today.

Diabetes involves all the systems of the body & it damages the main organs. There are mainly two types of diabetes.

  1. Type 1 ( IDDM ) :- In this type patient’s pancreas; do not produce enough insulin. This is mostly juvenile ( fom birth ), so also called as juvenile diabetes. Patient have to take insulin regularly, so it also called INSULINE DEPENDANT DIABETES MELLITUS ( IDDM ).
  2. Type 2 :- After some age there may be lack of insulin in body or there may be insulin resistance in body which leads to high blood sugar. This diabetes is also termed as adult onset diabetes.
  3. Gestational Diabetes :- many women do not suffer from diabetes but during pregnancy their bllod sugar level increases leading to diabetes.
  4. Also there are some different conditions in which sugar rises but it may not be permanent.

Raised blood sugar alone means diabetes is incomplete definition. Raised blood sugar with frequent urination, fatigue, sudden weight loss, dryness of mouth, increased hunger, thirst, itchy skin, skin rashes, non healing wounds, etc. are many symptoms associated; so diabetes is a group of symptoms.

Most women may have had diabetes before becoming pregnant,Diabetes is a disease in which your blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high. When you are pregnant, high blood sugar levels are not good for your baby. For women who have diabetes before they become pregnant, the risks of complications during pregnancy depend on how long diabetes has been present and whether complications of diabetes, such as high blood pressure and kidney damage, are present.

If you already have diabetes, the best time to control your blood sugar is before you get pregnant. High blood sugar levels can be harmful to your baby during the first weeks of pregnancy - even before you know you are pregnant. To keep you and your baby healthy, it is important to keep your blood sugar as close to normal as possible before and during pregnancy.

Diabetic Pruritis

Diabetes is one possible cause for unexplained itching. Exactly how diabetes causes itching isn't certain, but suggested causes include diabetic nerve root injury, metabolic abnormalities from widely fluctuating blood sugars, and dry skin. If this is the cause, it should improve with better efforts to lower the blood sugars.

That said, there are many other causes for severe itching. Dry skin from eczema is a common cause that's fairly easy to treat with moisturizers and steroid cream/ointment. Cholestatic liver disease with high blood levels of bilirubin is another cause of severe itching. A normal set of liver enzyme tests will rule this out. Either a very slow or a very fast thyroid can cause itching, so be sure to check thyroid function. Severe chronic kidney failure can also cause itching from the buildup of toxins. High levels of circulating blood histamines from a tumor can cause itching, so be sure to check a blood histamine level. Folks who have a disorder called polycythemia vera may experience itching due to high circulating levels of histamine-producing mast cells.

Pruritus simply means itching. It can be associated with a number of disorders, including dry skin, skin disease, pregnancy, and rarely, cancer.

It can lead to scratching and rubbing which can break the skin and can lead to soreness, bleeding and skin infections.
